Duronto Express

Duronto Express is a series of long-distance, high-speed trains introduced by Indian Railways in 2009, designed to cover vast distances swiftly and efficiently at speeds of up to 130 km/hr. The first Duronto train made its inaugural run between Sealdah (Kolkata) and New Delhi, marking a new chapter in premium rail travel across India.

Originally conceived as nonstop services, Duronto Express trains operated without intermediate halts, meaning tickets could only be booked from the originating station. This changed in January 2016, when the trains began making scheduled commercial stops, opening them up to a wider range of passengers along their routes.

Duronto Express ticket prices can vary depending on the route of the train and the seat class you wish to travel in. Ticket prices on the Duronto Express can also change based on demand. • Fast Travel and Fewer Stops

Duronto Express trains run at a maximum speed of 130 km/hr. These trains make very few stops to cover long distances more quickly than regular express trains.

• A/C and Sleeper Coach Options

Duronto Express trains offer a mix of A/C and non-A/C travel options to suit different budgets. Passengers can choose from A/C 1-tier, A/C 2-tier, A/C 3-tier, and sometimes non-AC SL (sleeper) options. On some routes, 3E and 2S seating options are also available. 

• Onboard Catering Services

Onboard catering services are offered on most Duronto Express train routes, and the cost of food is included in the ticket price. Depending on the route and timing of the journey, passengers are served lunch, dinner, and breakfast based on a pre-decided menu.

• Reserved Seating and Berths

All coaches on the Duronto Express are reserved. This ensures passengers have confirmed seats and berths, making long journeys more organised and comfortable.

• Basic Travel Amenities

Duronto Express train coaches have basic amenities such as mobile charging points, bottle holders, LED night lamps, and clean washrooms. Passengers travelling in the A/C coaches are also provided with clean bedrolls.

Duronto Express trains use modern Linke-Hofmann-Busch (LHB) coaches. These coaches have better safety features, including the ability to avoid being turned over during a collision.
